Super Safari!

We were lucky enough to get to stay for a couple of nights at Pilanesberg National Park and go on several safaris. The National Park is 55,000 hectares and has around 7000 animals. The park is set in the crater of an extinct volcano with a beautiful landscape of rocky outcrops and savannah grasslands, with a lake in the middle of the park where we saw hippos. We drove around most of the 200kms of roads throughout the park at sunrise and sunset and were warned to keep our windows wound up in case any animals tried to get in the car with us!

It was pretty cool to watch a majestic mother elephant and her baby slowly crossing the road behind our car, but when she started to flap her ears- which is a warning sign before charging- we quickly got out of her way! We were glad to be in the protection of our car again when we noticed a lion crouching in the grassland, and watched anxiously as he emerged from the grass and crossed the road next to our car.

A special thanks to Anders and Malin for sharing some of their photos for parts of our South African blogs :-)
